History of West Bengal Digital Ration Card

On 27 January 2021 West Bengal Digital Ration Card or Khadya Sathi scheme has completed 5 years. This day is being celebrated by the West Bengal government as Khadya Sathi day. Through the West Bengal Digital Ration Card or Khadya Sathi Scheme the government has ensured food security to 10 crore people of Bengal during coronavirus lockdown. Other than this the west Bengal government has also decided to give ration to everyone free of cost. This scheme was launched on 27 January 2016.

The main objective of launching the West Bengal digital ration card or Khadya Sathi scheme is to give rice and wheat at the rate of Rs 2 per kg. This scheme is beneficial for around 7 crore people of West Bengal that comprises of 90% population of West Bengal.
