A marriage certificate in Maharashtra is a legal document certifying a bride and bridegroom’s matrimonial bond. The State Government concerned is empowered to grant marriage certificates in any State of India. The District Marriage Registrar shall issue a marriage certificate, as per religious marriage and special marriage laws. Purpose of Marriage Registration

The following are the benefits of having Maharashtra marriage certificate:

Eligibility for applying of Marriage Registration

The bride and groom will meet the following eligibility criteria for the certificate of marriage at Maharashtra:

  • To get the marriage certificate in Maharashtra, the groom or the bride should be a permanent resident of India.
  • The Party concerned should have a living spouse at the time of the marriage.
  • The groom must be 21 years old, and the bride must be 18.
  • The Hindu Marriage Act applies in cases where Hindus, Buddhists, Jains or Sikhs are both the husband and the wife, or in cases where they have converted to either of these faiths.
  • If either the husband or the wife is not Hindus, Buddhists, Jains or Sikhs, the marriage is registered under the 1954 Special Marriage Act
  • The charge may differ if registered after the date of marriage after two months (or a defined time).

  • 2 passport size photographs.
