Driving Test Procedure in Lakshadweep

Like everywhere else in the country, even in Lakshadweep, the test for driving licence is conducted as per Rule 15 of Motor Vehicle Act, 1988. The test is held in the presence of a Motor Vehicle Inspector from the RTO who is the invigilator. He fails or passes a candidate based on his performance. The applicant needs to take his own vehicle to the test which should be of the same category for which he has applied for a licence. In case he doesn’t have such a vehicle, he can use the vehicle of the motor driving school.

Test for Two-Wheeler & Three-Wheeler:

In case of the driving licence test for a 2 and a 3 wheeler, the candidate is required to ride inside a border and ride in a pattern of figure ‘8’ without resting his feet on the ground. Once satisfied, the invigilator asks the applicant to ride on the road, where he judges how well the candidate can control the vehicle in real-world conditions.

Test for Four Wheeler

The driving test for DL for a 4-wheeler stays fundamentally the same as the test for 2 or 3-wheeler as even in this case, the invigilator tests how comfortable when is with driving. For this test, the candidate has to drive on an ‘H’ marked on the testing ground without coming in contact with any of the pillars. Once the candidate has performed to satisfaction, the invigilator asks him to drive on a public road, where the applicant is judged on how he drives in real-world conditions. He is marked passed if he drives to invigilator’s satisfaction. On failing, he can apply for a re-test after 7 days. A nominal fee is required to be paid for the re-test.

Tips for Clearing Your Driving Test:

  • Practice well before giving the test
  • Don’t be nervous during the test
  • Reach the testing ground a bit early to avoid last-minute delays
  • Drive smoothly
  • Turn off the ignition only when the vehicle has come to a complete halt
  • Make use of turn indicators when changing direction.
